Submission Guidelines

  • Submission Deadline: End of fall semester. (Work received after this will be considered for the following year's issue.)
  • Length Maximum: None, but the longer a work is, the more cleanly written it needs to be.
  • Maximum Number of Submissions: Submit up to five pieces, one piece per file. (For example: if you submit three poems and two short stories, you should submit each in its own file as its own submission.)
  • Simultaneous Submissions: We accept simultaneous submissions; however, you are required to notify the editors immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere. Please use Submittable's withdraw function.
  • Working with an Editor: If your work is accepted, you may be contacted by the editorial staff for revisions. Failure to respond to editor communication may disqualify your work from publication. Note: the editorial team may correct small, technical errors in your writing without contacting you, but we will contact you before making larger changes
  • Rights: If your work is accepted, you agree to give Plains Paradox first time serial rights and electronic archival rights.
  • FERPA: By submitting to Plains Paradox, you are waving your FERPA  rights for the submitted work and acknowledge that it may be 1) viewed by a number of student and faculty editors and 2) published in a publicly-available (hard copy and digital)  publication and/or displayed in the Student Art Show.
